A position exists for a Research Assistant/Associate in the Department of Engineering, to work on Sustainability of Production and the Built Environment. The new Research Assistant/Associate role will support a portfolio of research activities on knowledge transfer of best practices from sustainable manufacturing into other production environments including manufacturing, construction, and infrastructure, both directly with industrial partners but also with government and industrial bodies. The post holder will be located in West Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK, though remote or hybrid working patterns will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • The role includes analysis of data, helping to write academic and industry publications, supporting the writing of grant applications, and developing networks to disseminate learnings from research into real-world applications.
  • This role should aim to support the findings and insights from research to be framed and communicated such that they are able to be received and used by real‑world practitioners from industrial, policy, and other non‑academic stakeholder groups.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Applicants must have a PhD (or be close to obtaining) OR equivalent experience in Engineering or a related discipline.
  • The ideal candidate would have experience working in both an industrial and an academic environment, and experience spanning both the manufacturing and construction & infrastructure sectors.
  • Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.
  • Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD [or equivalent experience].

Salary

  • Research Assistant: £33,002 – £35,608
  • Research Associate: £37,694 – £46,049

Employment Type

  • Fixed‑term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.
