The technical team based in the Biomedical building in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences is looking to fill two vacancies in our core technical team. We provide core technical support to the Schools of Psychology and Neuroscience, Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences and the Bristol Medical school. The role is part of a wider team of about 50 technicians, primarily based within a local team supporting core services for the research labs and supporting scientists to deliver world‑class research.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that core tasks are fulfilled on a daily, weekly or monthly basis, including waste collection and recycling management, relocating and connecting gas cylinders and ensuring gas cylinder supplies.
  • Maintain equipment, organise and assist with repairs and conduct routine checks.
  • Assist other teams in the building when necessary, help with lab equipment moves, and prepare lab spaces.
  • Prepare simple culture media for bacteria and fruit flies, manage stocks and order consumables.
  • Answer emails and perform other duties as detailed in the job description.
  • Support and engage in Health and Safety activities, promote best practice to all staff and students, and undertake required training and development activities.
  • Attend team meetings and participate in technical events such as the annual Technicians Conference.
