We are looking for a proactive, enthusiastic team player to join the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences at the University of Bristol as a Core Technician. You will be joining a large team of technicians who help support the ongoing research and teaching activities across the Biomedical Sciences Building. You will principally be working as part of a small team of technicians who ensure the smooth and efficient running of the biomedical building Stores facility. The Stores is essential to maintain supplies for our cutting‑edge biomedical research.
What will you be doing? The role will be primarily based in the Stores but you will also provide support to other core activities when necessary, e.g. media production, and waste management. This role’s main duties will be processing the internal orders, maintaining and controlling Stores stocks, accepting deliveries and organising the sending and receiving of courier parcels. The daily operations can be very varied so a positive, flexible and a problem‑solving attitude is required to support the variety of technical functions necessary. You will also be helping people by answering questions about Stores, parcel sending and other queries.
You will also deputise for the Stores manager in their absence, including daily task direction support and guidance to Level 1 Stores technicians, and you will assist in all the stores areas and activities when necessary. This is a really important building core facility, which supports a wide range of research/international collaboration in many medical areas. The role is a critical customer‑facing role, where you will be dealing with staff and students and couriers daily, you may also be asked to work across the wider building technical teams areas.
You enjoy interacting with people, be a good communicator, organised, have excellent IT skills, be self‑motivated, and someone who can develop relationships quickly. This role would suit someone ideally with a science background and experience of working in a stores or customer‑facing environment. A keen eye for detail, organisational skills and some safety experience would be very beneficial, due to the nature of the products and legislative procedures needed in the building. You will also provide cover and support to other areas so an ability to be flexible and adaptable and a willingness to learn new things would be advantageous. It is a good opportunity to gain experience in core technical activities in Higher Education and to build a career in Technical Services.
