The University of Bristol wishes to recruit a highly skilled & qualified graduate/post-graduate to lead and deliver a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project with Tods Technology.

Tods is a world-leading designer and manufacturer of advanced composite structures for the marine defence industry, situated on the Isle of Portland on Dorset\’s Jurassic Coast (your base).

This position is funded through the UKRI KTP programme and includes a £4,000 training budget and 10% of your time dedicated to personal development. You will have access to the University\’s USS pension scheme, with generous employer contributions.

The KTP project aims to develop a new process for designing and manufacturing advanced polymer materials for the marine defence sector. As a KTP Associate, you will work at Tods Technology\’s manufacturing site on Portland to embed new knowledge, supported by research and academic collaboration from the University.

This role offers an opportunity to apply your degree in real-world applications, providing an introduction to industrial and commercial work while maintaining academic links. Funded by Innovate UK, it offers a blend of training and supervision, focusing on fast-track development of personal, organizational, leadership, and analytical skills.

What will you be doing?

  1. The project will develop a new process for designing and manufacturing advanced composite/polymer materials for the marine defence sector.
  2. You will be the project lead, managing your workload and ensuring deliverables, including leading meetings and workshops.
  3. You will engage in problem-solving activities and your own learning.
  4. You will have creative freedom to suggest changes and develop the project plan.
  5. Eligibility to obtain M.O.D. Security Clearance (SC). British passport holder with 5 years of continuous UK residency.
  6. Higher degree in Engineering or Chemistry (PhD preferred).
  7. Strong chemical formulation skills.
  8. Background in chemical or physical sciences or polymer engineering.
  9. Ability to work with molecular modelling packages is highly desirable.
