Passionate about equity, justice and liberation, and supporting people to campaign for social change? We’re looking for someone with the passion to support students to influence, challenge and campaign. You will be working to support our student representatives to make the change that matters to them. You'll ensure that the SU's student voice and campaigns work stay relevant and has liberation at its heart.
You’ll advise our student leaders and community organisers ensuring their projects and campaigns are evidence based and reflect the latest student opinion. Our work only succeeds when teams across Bristol SU work closely together, so you’ll also form a key link with our Academic Representation Team and our Research and Insight Team to make sure students know all about the opportunities they have to get involved in change-making.
You will lead and support our Community Organising work ensuring that it is sector leading and is built on the principle of students working together to drive change. Our Liberation and Community Organising Coordinator will be Bristol SU's expert when it comes to supporting and empowering students from marginalised backgrounds. You might be someone who is passionate about social justice, equality and human rights and you'll be someone who understands the impact of intersectionality on our experiences.
Of course we're not expecting you to have lived experience in all areas, but you'll be committed to and focused on liberation for all students, and developing organising strategies to enable them to win for their communities. You'll be responsible for supporting the SU's liberation focused student leaders. You'll lead our approach to support and development in this area provide individual support for those leaders and for elected officers.
You’ll work closely with others in the Liberation and Campaigns team to ensure diverse representation in our democratic processes and support elected officers and community organisers to build impactful campaigns around issues that really matter to them. You might be someone who has experience as a community organiser or someone skilled in elevating the voices of those often go unheard. We’re looking for someone with the passion to support students to find and connect with people who share their experiences.
You’ll deliver work that supports our aim to be a progressive union, increasing representation of marginalised groups and empowering students to challenge inequality. You’ll play a key role in ensuring that Bristol SU is meeting the needs of students from a diverse range of backgrounds and lobbying the University to do the same for an improved student experience and a better education.
You don’t have to have worked in higher education or in a students’ union before. But we are looking for someone who is a natural problem-solver with excellent administration skills to help them adapt to a fast-paced environment. You’ll be experienced and confident in working on equity, diversity and inclusion issues. You’ll be passionate about empowering others and giving them the tools to shape their own experiences.
