Want to put your knowledge and skills into developing and supporting exciting teaching and research activities within the metal working facilities? A full time, 37 hours a week, exciting opportunity to join the College of Creativity, Technology and Society has arisen. This will see you provide technical support for a range of teaching and research activities within the Technical department.

As a Technical instructor your current skills will be utilised to manufacture, assemble, install and machine bespoke components to various specifications as well as instructing and supporting students from diverse backgrounds. Training in all aspects of the role will be given but an enthusiasm for delivering a high-quality service to our students as part of a larger technical team.

In this role you will:

  • Plan, prepare and set up specialist materials, equipment, facilities, for practical classes, outreach sessions and exhibitions; working to deadlines and set standards and to ensure all material, equipment and facilities are left in a tidy, clean, and safe state after the session.
  • Operate instrumentation and equipment, providing training, processing and/or analysis, for students and staff as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain health and safety documentation for equipment and facilities, to ensure effective controls, including for all waste disposal, are in place and current legislation is adhered too.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Experience in machine and mechanical assembly skills including the use of lathes and milling machines (including CNC)
  • Some fabrication knowledge including welding and sheet metalwork.
  • Have a good understanding of Health and Safety.
  • Be self-motivated to work individually and able to contribute as part of a team.
  • Able to accurately communicate technical information to a range of audiences.

This permanent role is full time with a generous paid 5 weeks starting annual leave entitlement in addition to bank holidays and pension scheme. This role is based in our modern teaching and research facilities on our Moulsecoomb campus.

This position is available on a job share arrangement.
