We are seeking to appoint a Senior Research Assistant in Microfluidics and Electrochemistry on a fixed‑term basis (5 months) to support an exciting research project focused on the development of 3D‑printed microfluidic devices with integrated electrochemical sensors. Microfluidic sensing platforms offer powerful tools for biomedical measurement and drug discovery. This project is focused on the design, fabrication, and evaluation of microfluidic devices for monitoring key biomarkers, with the aim of developing screening tools for novel pharmaceuticals.
The postholder will be responsible for the fabrication of 3D‑printed microfluidic devices and the integration of electrochemical sensors within these platforms. The role will involve carrying out electrochemical characterisation and performance evaluation of the developed sensors for biological measurement applications, as well as supporting experimental studies and data analysis to assess and optimise overall device performance.
To succeed in the role you will need:
- A degree in chemistry or equivalent experience.
- Practical experience with microfluidics.
- Up‑to‑date specialist knowledge of electroanalytical sensor characterisation for biological measurements.
- Strong numeracy, data analysis, and critical thinking skills, including interpretation of electrochemical data.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical findings.
- Proven ability to show initiative, resolve technical problems, and recommend appropriate methodologies.
- Strong organisation and planning skills, with the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
- Good working knowledge of standard computing tools, including word processing, spreadsheets, and data handling software.
