Duties

The School of Applied Sciences is looking to appoint a reliable Assistant Technician to join our dynamic technical team. The post will be Term Time only (31 weeks/yr) and 37h/week. Our Technical staff are fundamental to the success of the University and the School, ensuring that laboratory spaces are constantly maintained, clean and tidy. The primary duties of this role include:

  • providing an adequate supply of consumables and basic equipment to teaching and research facilities
  • the provision of a specialist glass washing service
  • the cleaning of specialist facilities
  • assisting with general tasks around the School to ensure a smooth service delivery

The School of Applied Sciences specialises in research and education in the fields of Biology, Biomedical Science, Chemistry, Pharmacy, Ecology and Conservation, Geography, and Environment. This diversity provides a rich environment to tackle global problems using multidisciplinary approaches. The School comprises of around 160 staff, including 32 technical staff, and 1200 students, studying on a range of courses from undergraduate to PhD level.

The university provides both in-house and external training on a range of skills and topics, and we encourage the ongoing development of all staff members. This role benefits from 23 days annual leave, in addition to all bank holidays, and an additional closure period between Christmas and New year, giving a total of around 40 days per year. Whilst this post is 37.0 hours per week, we welcome applications form candidates seeking to job share.
