This is a pivotal role at the heart of the University’s governance and decision-making, and a key member of our Executive Team. As we continue to strengthen our institutional effectiveness and deliver against our strategic ambitions, the role of University Secretary is central to ensuring that our governance, legal and regulatory frameworks are robust, agile and aligned to the needs of a modern, forward‑looking university.

We are seeking an experienced and authoritative leader who brings deep expertise in governance, legal and regulatory matters, alongside the judgment and credibility to operate at the most senior levels of the institution. You will be a trusted adviser to the Chair of Council, Council members and the Vice‑Chancellor, supporting effective governance, informed decision‑making and strong institutional accountability.

This role requires both precision and perspective: ensuring that our constitutional and regulatory responsibilities are met, while also contributing to the wider leadership and strategic direction of the University. You will play a vital role in maintaining strong and effective relationships between the governing body and the executive, and ensuring that governance supports, rather than constrains, institutional ambition.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain strong and effective relationships between the governing body and the executive, facilitating effective governance.

Qualifications
  • Extensive experience in governance, legal and regulatory matters at senior university or similar institutional levels.
  • Strong judgement, credibility and ability to operate at the most senior levels of the institution.
  • Proven ability to advise senior leaders and support informed decision‑making.
