We are looking for two enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join us as an Assistant Professor (Grade 9) in Optometry and as an Assistant or Associate Professor in Optometry (Grade 9/10 depending on experience) to make significant contributions to the implementation of our new teaching and learning strategy, and/or academic research. The ideal candidates will have clinical as well as academic expertise and a track record of research in optometry and related topics although candidates with a more clinical and/or teaching focus will also be considered.
What you will be doing:
- Undertake research informed teaching and teaching related activities, to be agreed with the Head of Department.
- Plan, deliver and assess innovative, engaging and challenging teaching activities which provide a distinctive and exceptional student experience.
- Ensure teaching is research-led with subject content underpinned by relevant specialist research.
- Contribute to academic research and/or administration.
Candidates for the Associate Professor role will also be expected to:
- Provide leadership for the development of distinct and innovative programmes of study.
- Generate or contribute to the generation of grant and contract income to support the University’s research and impact bidding for internal and/or external research funds.
- Contribute to strategic and operational planning within the Faculty and wider University level.
Qualifications / Experience:
- PhD (or equivalent) in optometry, or a relevant subject area or an Honours degree (or equivalent) in optometry or a related degree, coupled with registration with the General Optical Council.
- For the Associate Professor role, possess a PhD (or equivalent) in optometry or a relevant subject area. Registration with the General Optical Council is preferred but not mandatory.
- Advance HE fellow or a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education Practice, or a commitment to obtaining this following appointment.
