Overview

Student Casual – Student Living Content Creator (Mandarin Speaking) – Student Living – Grade 2 – 906952 at University of Birmingham. The University is inviting applications from a native Mandarin speaker to join the Student Living team to develop engaging, informative and culturally relevant accommodation content for prospective and current students from China. Content will primarily be used across Chinese social media platforms to support the international student experience and the occupancy of university-owned bed spaces.

Main Duties

  • Creation of engaging, high-quality content (e.g., short videos, photos, articles, live streams) tailored for platforms like WeChat and Xiaohongshu (Little Red Book).
  • Work with the Campus Services Marketing team to plan and execute content campaigns addressing key concerns and interests of Chinese students regarding accommodation.
  • Translate, adapt, and localise existing accommodation literature and FAQs from English to Mandarin, ensuring cultural appropriateness and clear understanding for a Chinese audience.
  • Participate in content creation activities, including presenting on camera and translating copy to ensure full and accurate accommodation information is provided.

Person Specification

  • Chinese native speaker (written and spoken fluency in Mandarin is essential).
  • Demonstrable experience or a strong portfolio in creating engaging digital content for social media (e.g., short-form video, vlogging, article writing).
  • In-depth knowledge and active personal use of key Chinese social media platforms.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with confidence in telephone, in-person, and on-camera engagements.
  • Proficiency in professional translation and localisation from English to Mandarin.
  • Experience with basic video editing or graphic design software (e.g., CapCut).
