Role Summary
The College of Arts and Law Undergraduate Student Ambassador is a key support role for the College. We are looking for current undergraduates to join us as Student Ambassadors to support student recruitment and marketing activity for the College. Ambassadors are employed to support young people during activities and offer advice and knowledge to future students, their parents and teachers. Ambassadors may be involved in activities including delivering presentations to large audiences, leading campus tours, meeting parents and offer holders, assist with visits to the campus in your School or Department. You may be asked to represent your Department or School across a range of activities, and not just your programme.
All ambassadors are also expected to make themselves available for the University’s Undergraduate Open Days held in June, October and November, and to support Offer-Holder Visit Days in February, March and April if possible.
Ambassadors may also be involved with creating engaging content for the University website, prospectus and College social media.
The role involves supporting the College Marketing and Communications team in marketing initiatives with the aim of encouraging prospective students to apply to Birmingham and offer holders to select Birmingham as their Firm Choice.
The role may cover working across a wide variety of platforms and activities including Unibuddy, The Student Room, Facebook, Instagram, Zoom webinars, phone calls and videos.
Main Responsibilities
- You will be managed by a member of the College Marketing and Communications team who will direct your work and priorities. Types of activity may include:
- Working during the main University Undergraduate Open Days:
- Saturday 11 October 2025
- Saturday 15 November 2025
- Meeting and assisting offer holders and their parents during Offer Holder Visit Days:
- Saturday 14 February 2026
- Saturday 7 March 2026
- Saturday 21 March 2026
- Wednesday 1 April 2026
- Leading campus tours
- Preparing and delivering presentations or participating in student panels (topics include your student experience, student life, and why you chose your subject)
- Confidently assisting the organisers to co-ordinate and deliver an event including overseeing activities, registration, attendance, resources, catering and ad hoc enquires.
- Contributing to question-and-answer panels during school or offer holder visits to share experiences
- Administration of special events (e.g. making telephone calls, collating information packs, data inputting)
- Creating engaging blog and vlog content from a student perspective. Topics will be provided to coincide with key events throughout the year plus opportunity to create personal content related to student life
- Engaging with offer-holders on social media platforms
- Being a representative of the student body and voice for college digital marketing initiatives, feeding back on activities and contributing ideas to promote the University

Person Specification
- Current undergraduate student studying a College of Arts and Law subject
- Ideally able to offer a minimum 2 years commitment to being an Ambassador
- Enthusiasm for the University, the College and your area of study
- A good knowledge (or willingness to gain knowledge) of the University, campus and its student support services
- A good level of English language is required in both written and verbal communication
- Customer service skills including the ability to stay calm, friendly and helpful when interacting with people and under pressure
- Evidence of showing diplomacy and initiative to deal with a variety of people and situations
- A professional approach to work is required, as well as being able to represent the University and its brand consistently and appropriately
- Reliable, punctual, organised and conscientious
- The ability to take initiative and resolve problems when needed
- Confident and comfortable appearing on camera (where applicable)
Hours
This position does not guarantee a regular number of hours per week. The ad-hoc nature of the role is ideal for students looking for paid, on-campus work that fits around their studies and extra-curricular activities. The post is suitable for those who are looking for part-time work without the commitment of weekly fixed hours or those who already have a regular job under 15 hours per week and wish to supplement their income.
Working hours are variable depending on the number of positions available and what shifts are assigned (notified in advance) and on an ambassador’s availability around studies. Most activities will take place Monday to Friday however activity may also take place during University vacation as well as over the weekends (Open Days and Offer Holder Visits on Saturdays).
Interview and Eligibility to Work documents
- As we are looking to recruit a large number of students and would be possibly looking for support for our first Open Day on Saturday 11 October, we will be conducting interviews on a rolling basis.
- If shortlisted, you will be invited to attend an in-person assessment centre either the week commencing 15 September or the week commencing 13 October. Please note in your application if there are any dates you cannot do.
- At the interview, you will complete a Right to Work check. This will require you to bring your original documents with you for the interviewer to witness and verify. Required documents and instructions are available here .
- If your interview is successful you must complete compulsory training sessions before you can become a Student Ambassador.
