Overview

In this role, you will support patient and public involvement (PPIE) across diabetes and endocrine research programmes. You will plan and facilitate PPIE events, gather qualitative feedback, and ensure patient voices shape research. You’ll conduct and analyse qualitative data, contribute to publications, and collaborate with patients, carers and the public. The position sits within the Department of Applied Health Sciences, contributing to impactful health research with an inclusive, collaborative culture.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate and facilitate PPIE activities and groups (workshops, focus groups, advisory panels) with people affected by diabetes and endocrine conditions
  • Conduct qualitative research with patients, carers and the public (interviews, focus groups) and perform thematic or qualitative data analysis
  • Collect research data using various methods (literature reviews, interviews, experiments) and analyse it as directed
  • Present research outputs and draft academic publications or posters for seminars and conferences
  • Develop or adapt techniques, models and methods for research
  • Provide guidance to staff and students assisting with research
  • Address issues that may affect research objectives and deadlines
  • Carry out administrative tasks related to delivering the research
  • Identify and respond to equality and diversity issues in line with university policies
  • Foster a fair and equitable workplace and support patient and public involvement
  • Interact with PPIE groups and ensure patients, carers and the public are meaningfully engaged

Key requirements

  • Experience of conducting qualitative research (e.g., interviews, focus groups, surveys) and analysing qualitative data
  • Experience interacting with PPIE groups or working with patients, carers or public in a research context
  • MBChB or equivalent medical qualification (desirable)
  • Ability to analyse information and communicate effectively
  • Ability to access and organise resources
  • Knowledge of Equality Act 2010 and public sector equality duties
