Position Details

College of Medicine and Health
Location: University of Birmingham, Edgbaston, Birmingham UK
Grade: 4 – Full Time, Permanent. Two positions available. Closing date: 23 November 2025.

Role Summary

Students are at the heart of all we do. This role supports the administration of taught and research programmes, including student recruitment, admissions, induction, timetabling, attendance monitoring, examinations, student progression, placements and graduation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the first point of contact for students, staff and external providers, answering queries and managing resolution.
  • Provide administrative support for the teaching and learning cycle, such as recording attendance and drafting exam papers.
  • Communicate relevant information to stakeholders.
  • Assist with event planning and delivery to enhance the curriculum and student experience.
  • Use complex university systems to collate, manipulate and interpret data and produce routine reports.
  • Contribute to programme/module reviews and evaluation processes.
  • Help review administrative processes to improve practices across the university.
  • Provide secretarial support for committees and meetings.
  • Support equality and values diversity, moderating behaviour to avoid bias.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience

  • Some professional experience in similar roles.
  • GCSEs to a minimum grade C/4 in English and Mathematics (or equivalent).
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines in a collaborative team environment.
  • Experience with complex work systems such as student databases.
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to interact with individuals at all levels.
  • Attention to detail, confidentiality and sound judgement.
  • Experience supporting committees in a secretarial capacity.
  • Understanding of equality and diversity principles and ability to respond accordingly.

  • Comfortable working independently with some scope for choice.
  • Effective communication and delegation skills.
  • Well‑organised and able to prioritise work proactively.
  • Ability to cope with change in a fast‑moving environment.
