Overview
Data Manager in the Cancer Clinical Trials Unit contributes to high-quality data collection, management and reporting for cancer trials. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to ensure data integrity and timely delivery, supporting study delivery and compliance with GCP and regulatory standards. The role involves data entry, verification, query resolution and development of procedures to improve trial processes. This is a fixed-term post offering part-time or full-time hours with potential for progression and a strong focus on collaboration and data quality.

Responsibilities
- Serve as a communications hub for research teams and collaborators, resolving data-related queries
- Manage data collection with external centres, ensuring timely updates and confidentiality
- Ensure smooth study operations by monitoring data collection and flagging issues to management
- Abstract/verify data from records; check for inconsistencies and resolve missing or contradictory data
- Enter data into multiple databases, including non-routine data requiring interpretation
- Produce regular and ad-hoc reports and contribute to validation and testing of data entry and reporting applications
- Assist with general data management tasks, training, SOP development, and supervision of junior staff
- Support delivery of clinical research in line with GCP, GDPR, and relevant policies
- Cover for managers as needed and undertake other duties commensurate with the post
Key requirements
- GCSEs in English and Mathematics (minimum grade C) or equivalent level 2 qualification
- Experience of medical data coding, data entry and data validation techniques
- Ability to query and maintain computer databases
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and prioritise workload
- Ability to identify problems and suggest procedural improvements
- Office administration skills and good IT literacy
- Excellent written and verbal communication and telephone manner
- Aptitude for learning and applying new skills in trial design, conduct and analysis
- Ability to follow complex data management procedures and work with multidimensional databases
