Background
The Careers Network supports students and graduates to realise the potential of their University of Birmingham experience and degree, supporting employability, enterprise, and entrepreneurship. The team comprises circa 70 staff across several specialist areas, engaging with employers, alumni, and external partners.
Role Summary
The role will form part of the Programmes Team, working on The Birmingham Award, marking and providing feedback on summative assessments for undergraduate and postgraduate students. The successful candidate will also support students during assessment clinics and appointments, and perform related administrative tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend Birmingham Award marking training and complete standardisation exercise.
- Mark student reflections and competency‑based answers using provided criteria.
- Provide written feedback and overall pass/fail assessment.
- Deliver one‑to‑one student support appointments.
- Co‑deliver assessment clinic sessions.
- Support the Student of the Year process and answer queries.
- Perform administrative tasks related to online educational content.
Work Schedule
Duration: 17 weeks (Feb 2 – May 1, 2026 and Jul 20 – Aug 14, 2026). Working hours up to 15 hours per week, flexible and may include remote work.
Additional Information
Interviews: Monday 13th – Friday 19th January 2026, preferably in person.
Person Specification
- Current Postgraduate Research (PGR) student at University of Birmingham (any discipline).
- Good honours degree.
- Experience of delivering training or teaching sessions and facilitating group work.
- Experience of supporting student assessment and providing written and verbal feedback.
- Knowledge of STAR method for competency‑based answers.
- Excellent customer service and supporting skills.
- Understanding of student employability issues.
- Excellent communication, presentation, time‑management, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
- Positive, enthusiastic approach.
- Interest in careers, employability, personal and professional development.
- Flexible working approach.
