The Higher Education sector is evolving with digital technologies. Technology-Integrated Learning is integral to student experience. This Delivery Manager role sits within the Education Technologies and Learning Environments Unit of the Libraries and Learning Resources division.

Department Overview

The Education Technologies and Learning Environments (ETLE) team works flexibly and aims to support the university’s strategic ambitions across learning technology platforms, digital learning design, physical space management and staff development.

Role Summary

The Delivery Manager will own a range of initiatives spanning the unit’s activities, from learning technology platforms to curriculum technology rollouts. Responsibilities include project planning, monitoring, reporting, stakeholder management, and team leadership.

Main Duties

  • Responsible for the delivery of ETLE initiatives across activities, including:
    • Developing project plans, KPIs and milestones.
    • Identifying and gaining support for new initiatives.
    • Creating operational plans and coordinating delivery with colleagues and departments.
    • Monitoring, reviewing and auditing project progress and implementing improvements.
    • Reporting on progress with reports and dashboards for stakeholders such as SLT and Programme Board.
    • Assessing and escalating issues and risks, maintaining risk registers.
    • Stakeholder management with ETLE partners, funders, project boards and cross-university colleagues.
    • Managing project resources and budgets, ensuring documentation is maintained.
    • Providing executive support to senior committees, work streams and working groups.
    • Lead a small team on a project, providing a motivational environment and supporting staff performance.
    • Coordinate the organisation of conferences, meetings, workshops and dissemination events.
    • Develop and deliver communication strategies, including newsletters, briefings and website updates.
    • Maintain priority balance and action to meet agreed deliverables against timelines.
    • Keep up-to-date with project and change management methodologies.
    • Support the team with managing change as the unit grows.
    • Source, analyse and develop insights from data to inform evaluation and review.
    • Build understanding of the unit’s context to identify innovation opportunities.

    • Support the University’s sustainability agenda through resource‑efficient working.
    • Work in an agile and flexible manner, supporting resourcing needs across the unit.
    • Perform other duties commensurate with the grade.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience

  • Degree level qualification or equivalent plus practical managerial experience or significant relevant experience with evidence of increasingly demanding roles.
  • Proven track record in project and/or change management, with knowledge of methodologies such as PRINCE2.
  • Literacy and numeracy skills, the ability to write clearly, analyse data and produce reports.
  • Excellent people‑management skills, ability to inspire and lead colleagues.
  • Values‑driven, aligning behaviour with the University of Birmingham values of ambition, innovation, openness, collaboration and responsibility.
  • Excellent budgetary management experience.
  • Highly proficient IT skills, including MS Office and website editing; quick to learn new software.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, relationship building and influencing skills.
  • Excellent organisational and multi-tasking abilities with methodical approach and prioritisation.
  • Experience working in a complex organisation and a matrix management environment.
