Birmingham Law School is seeking to appoint an outstanding scholar as an Associate Professor in law to contribute to the leadership and delivery of research, teaching, engagement and impact in the school. In particular, we are seeking to appoint an individual with the ability to teach private law (e.g. Contract, Tort, Trust and Equity, Company, International and European Economic Law, Private International Law, Commercial, Commercial Conflict of Laws, International Investment Law, Banking) in both undergraduate and postgraduate modules.

Main Duties
  • Develop, plan and lead research activities and programmes of outstanding quality and international repute, publishing high-quality internationally excellent and world leading research outputs.
  • Contribute to delivery and development of the Birmingham Law School’s portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, using innovative research-informed teaching to inspire and engage students.
  • Develop and lead collaborative working arrangements with colleagues across the School, College and wider University to deliver outstanding research and teaching.
  • Provide leadership in sustained high-quality research, knowledge transfer, enterprise, business engagement, public engagement or similar activities.
Person Specification
  • Normally, a higher degree (usually a PhD) relevant to the research/teaching area or equivalent qualifications.
  • Strong and sustained international research and education profile, evidenced by a substantial record of international quality outputs and external grant funding.
  • Proven ability to plan and lead the delivery of innovative research-led teaching.
  • Track record of attracting and successfully supervising high quality doctoral students.
  • Demonstrable interest in translating research into societal impact through engagement with policy and practice.
