Responsibilities

You will provide high quality care, learning, and development for all children attending the nursery.

You will ensure children are safe, happy, and stimulated with their individual needs met, in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (EYFS).

Light domestic duties may also be required.

• Provide high quality, positive care for children through social, emotional, educational, and practical interaction, nurturing and guidance.
• Follow policies and procedures and comply with the Children Act (2006), Health and Safety legislation, and Ofsted requirements.
• Ensure children are kept safe, well, and that Child Protection Procedures are followed.
• Implement the key worker system to address individual needs of each child, family, and carers.
• Maintain awareness of Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice.
• Observe and assess children’s learning and development and keep accurate records.
• Partner with parents/carers to keep them informed of their child’s day and progress.
• Organise, maintain, and ensure a clean, tidy, hygienic, child‑friendly environment.
• Plan, prepare, and supervise activities such as arts and craft, cooking, reading, music, and outdoor and physical activities.
• Clean and maintain toys and equipment safely.
• Feed babies and children, ensuring nutritional needs are met and complying with Food Safety Regulations.
• Change nappies and support children with potty training and toileting.
• Help children to learn social, emotional, numeracy, language, and practical skills.
• Collaborate with nursery staff to provide a high quality service.
• Work with outside professional bodies and agencies where appropriate.
• Implement the daily nursery routine.
• Participate in meetings.
• Apply positive behaviour management techniques.
• Stay informed about developments in childcare and undertake required training.
• Ensure health and safety of colleagues and children.
• Treat everyone with dignity and respect in line with equality legislation.
• Undertake other duties as required.

Engage fully with the University apprenticeship scheme, attend mandatory group days, and promote the scheme positively.

Qualifications

• GCSE English Language and Maths or equivalent Level 2 qualifications.
• Some experience of caring for children.
• Enthusiastic, flexible, reliable, and dedicated learner.
• Strong attention to detail and a can‑do attitude.
• Willingness to learn about legislation, regulations, Child Protection procedures, Ofsted requirements, inspection criteria, and EYFS.
• Understanding of health and safety and hygiene in a childcare setting.
• Physically and mentally suitable to care for children, including handling challenging behaviours.
• Ability to promote good practice professionally.
• Effective communication with children and adults from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to write legibly and present information well.
• Excellent teamwork skills.
• Good organisational skills.
• Understanding of how diversity affects early years childcare.
• Willingness to undertake duties as required.
