Overview
In this role you will manage sprints, jumps and throws coaching within the University Athletics Club and help develop a high-performance culture for UB Sport. You will work with key stakeholders to grow the Talent Hub and pathway programmes, raising the university's profile as a performance sport university. You will lead coaching sessions, mentor athletes and coaches, and oversee competition planning and team development. This is an opportunity to influence student experience, sport performance and inclusive athletic pathways at scale.

Responsibilities
- Plan and run athletics coaching sessions within established procedures
- Lead and develop a team of sprints, jumps, and throws coaches
- Support student leadership and club administration to foster an inclusive, professional culture
- Coordinate with athletics staff, performance centre staff, and student committee on sessions and development
- Recruitment, selection, budgeting and delivery of Athletics Team Scholarships
- Oversee annual recruitment of talented athletes into the University and Talent Hub
- Develop annual competition plans with objectives for sport, squads and individuals
- Maintain knowledge of BUCS/National Age Group rules and apply changes to budget and club development
- Act as a point of contact for Talent Hub & YTP athletes and coaches with regular engagement
- Lead and manage all University of Birmingham track and field competition internally and externally
- Promote equality, diversity and an inclusive working culture
- Support the University’s sustainability agenda through resource-efficient practices
- Perform any other duties commensurate with the grade
Key requirements
- Current UKA Athletics Coach Qualification (Level 2 or higher) with specialisation in Sprints, Jumps or Throws
- Extensive knowledge of HE/FE sporting landscape and competition structure
- Experience in selecting, managing, and budgeting scholarship programmes
- Proven mentoring experience for coaches and athletes through programmes such as YTP/JTP or equivalent
- Strong communication and organisational skills across multiple support programmes
- Experience working with NGB Talent Pathway Leads and sport-specific practitioners
- Degree level education or equivalent (practical experience acceptable if no degree)
- Literacy and numeracy with ability to write clearly and analyse data
- Knowledge of Equality Act 2010 protected characteristics and inclusive practice
