Salary: Full‑time starting salary normally in the range £47,389 to £56,535 with potential progression once in post to £63,606. Full‑time starting salary normally in the range £58,225 to £67,468 with potential progression once in post to £87,974.

Grade: 8 or 9

We are seeking to appoint a full‑time Assistant or Associate Professor in Sport Data Science who will contribute to research, education, and administration. The role holder will be expected to demonstrate excellent academic citizenship, through constructive, collaborative, and supportive working relationships with colleagues and students.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching: giving lectures and seminars, supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students, course development and innovation, taking an active part in examinations.
  • Research: carrying out innovative research and writing papers on topics relevant to the specialist subject area (including journals, books and other material) and obtaining research grant funding.

Qualifications

The successful applicant will have a PhD in a relevant specialist subject area, as well as postdoctoral experience. A strong research profile is required, with publications in leading conferences and journals in machine learning, artificial intelligence, data mining, and large‑scale data analytics, with applications in sport data science considered essential. Applicants should also demonstrate strong potential to secure external funding and be able to articulate how their research and scholarly activity informs and shapes their teaching. They should have a track record in teaching at a higher education institution.
