The University of Bedfordshire is a globally recognised, award-winning institution with over a century of commitment to widening participation and delivering high-quality, career-focused education. We are dedicated to empowering our students to become knowledgeable, employable, and entrepreneurial global citizens. Our diverse and dynamic community of around 15,000 students, drawn from more than 100 countries, enriches both our campuses and the wider region. As an anchor institution, we work closely with local councils, businesses and community partners to create opportunities that benefit our students and our communities.

A number of independent governors will soon complete their terms of office, and the University is seeking to appoint new independent members to its Board. Independent members play a vital role in shaping the University’s strategic direction and ensuring its long-term success. By bringing your skills, experience and perspective, you will help the University fulfil its mission and deliver lasting benefit to our students and the region. In return, you will have the opportunity to develop your professional profile and networks, working alongside a dedicated team of fellow governors and senior staff.

We are particularly interested in candidates with leadership experience in HR, Finance, Legal, or broader governance roles, drawn from across public, private and third sectors, and at different stages in their careers. Don’t let this list define you: if you have the skills, drive and motivation to help the University succeed, we would love to hear from you. We value diversity and inclusivity and the benefits they bring to our community. We are especially keen to broaden the membership of the Board and warmly welcome applications from women, candidates from ethnic minority backgrounds, those with declared disabilities, and LGBTQ+ candidates.

The role is not remunerated. Governors can claim reasonable travel and other expenses incurred whilst undertaking governors’ duties. This is an exciting time to join us as we strengthen our role in shaping the region’s future and expanding our global reach.

Applications, which should be in the form of a CV and cover letter, should be sent to no later than Friday 16 January 2026. The interview date is to be confirmed but will likely be in w/c 2 February and w/c 9 February 2026.
