The Department of Computer Science wishes to appoint academics to strengthen our growing Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Research Group. We welcome strong applications from all areas of AI and machine learning, particularly in Natural Language Processing, Reinforcement Learning and/or AI Security.

We are a highly collaborative team, working not only with other researchers in our department but across the university and beyond. We will offer you support and growth opportunities, including career mentoring, and opportunities to progress, manage and lead. We will help you to develop collaborations with regional, national and international partners, for example in science, entertainment, sport and healthcare.

The University of Bath is based on an attractive, single-site campus that facilitates interdisciplinary research, located on the edge of the World Heritage City of Bath.

About the role

Research: You will work with colleagues, students and researchers to develop and publish papers. You will apply for research funding to support your ideas and find ways of making your research available to society.

Teaching: You will design and deliver teaching materials for lectures, tutorials, and labs, educating and inspiring some of the brightest students in the country.

Helping with the running of the department: You will have a few internal roles to help the Department run smoothly, such as assisting with student placements, ethics processes, recruitment and admissions, or leading a research team.

About you:

Our ideal candidates will hold a PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline, along with a first degree or equivalent experience. Membership of a professional body and a higher education teaching qualification (e.g. PGCert, FHEA) are desirable.

  • You should demonstrate substantial research experience in your field.
  • A deep conceptual understanding of your subject, alongside experience teaching at UG/PG levels, is essential.
  • Strong written, oral and interpersonal skills are required.
  • A commitment to excellence in research and teaching, student experience, and ethical professional conduct is essential.
  • Senior Lecturers should exhibit academic leadership and a clear research vision.
  • All roles require excellent organisational and administrative skills.
