This 18-month position is supported by the University of Bath as part of the EPSRC-funded Programme Grant \βSynHiSel\β, which links membrane researchers across Bath, Manchester, Newcastle, Imperial College, Queen Mary, and Edinburgh Universities: www.synhisel.com.
Chemical separations are vital to daily life, from energy use to medications. They account for 10-15% of global energy consumption, with novel membranes potentially increasing efficiency tenfold and reducing carbon emissions. However, current commercial membranes lack the necessary selectivity, and new membrane materials often face scalability and sustainability challenges.
This 18-month postdoctoral position involves developing membranes for resource recovery, focusing on critical minerals and metals from liquid waste. Candidates should hold a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Material Science, or a related field, with experience in membrane fabrication, characterization, and testing. Electrochemical membrane process experience is highly desirable.
You will join a multidisciplinary team with expertise in materials, chemistry, and process engineering, working with Prof. John Chew and Prof. Davide Mattia in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Bath: https://www.bath.ac.uk/campaigns/membranes-research-expertise/.
