The Department of Politics, Languages and International Studies is looking to expand its research and teaching excellence in the area of Environmental Politics, a growing and dynamic area of research interest, publications and funding. The area responds to the University’s primary identified institutional research theme of Sustainability and climate for collaborative working across both the Faculty and University. It also responds to international imperatives such as the UN’s SDGs and would enable us to align more strongly with regional priorities, the UK’s national priorities and the UK Government’s Research the Geopolitics of Climate Governance; Climate Security; Climate Migration; Global South Environmental Politics and Perspectives; and Environmental Political Theory.

The successful candidates will have a strong emerging research profile, with outstanding research publications and a commitment to achieving impact. They will also have some familiarity with the funding landscape and in preparing and submitting high-quality external funding applications. In addition, the post-holders will be expected to design and teach core and optional undergraduate and postgraduate modules, on the Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels, contributing to our outstanding teaching profile. Additionally, they will supervise dissertations at UG and PGT levels and be expected to contribute to the overall development and life of the department.

  • some familiarity with the funding landscape
  • experience in successful UG and/or PG teaching
  • a commitment to excellence in all areas of teaching, research and citizenship
