The successful applicant should have demonstrable experience in machining and manufacturing parts using a variety of conventional and CNC machine tools. In addition, the post holder will provide expert technical support to staff and students across the department and faculty with the specification, design and manufacture of bespoke mechanical systems, and the repair, maintenance and modification of new and existing experimental rigs and components. They will also have custodianship of laboratories and workshops containing specialist research equipment and contribute to the management of health and safety in these spaces.
Applicants should have ideally served a recognised toolroom/technician/mechanical engineering apprenticeship, possess a minimum of a City and Guilds qualification or equivalent and have substantial experience of working in an engineering machine shop or toolroom environment using both CNC and conventional machine tools and associated equipment. Knowledge and experience of Computer Aided Design (CAD) and CNC machine tool programming would be an advantage, but training will be available if necessary to develop these skills.
