We are seeking a brilliant postdoctoral research associate to work at the frontier of research in implantable fuel cells for battery-free bioelectronics.
About the role
You will lead the development of new implantable glucose fuel cells. You will plan, implement, and coordinate the generation of new abiotic catalytic electrodes, designing experiments and analysis, as well as engaging with a highly multidisciplinary team. You will be involved in patients and public engagement activities and work closely with our industrial partners to adopt responsible research and innovation approaches and contribute to the generation of positive impact.
About the project:
GLUTRONICS is an EPSRC-funded project that seeks to advance the progress on long-lasting, lightweight and miniature implantable bioelectronics for personalised therapy of chronic conditions. GLUTRONICS's vision is to generate cutting-edge implantable fuel cells to power bioelectronics with bodys glucose. We aim to prove the clinical potential with in vitro and in vivo tests, and unlock follow-on translation with co-creation activities with key stakeholders.
About you
We are looking for a world-class researcher with a high degree of innovative spirit and enthusiasm to operate at the very cutting-edge of electrocatalysis and nanotechnology. Applicants must hold a PhD in electrochemistry, nanotechnology, biochemical engineering, biomaterial engineering, or relevant discipline. Successful applicants will possess:
- Expertise in electrochemistry and electrocatalysis;
- Expertise in synthesis of conductive nanostructures;
- A track record in conducting high-quality research, evidenced by publications in peer reviewed journals;
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams;
- Expertise in fuel cell technology is desirable.
You will be part of the multidisciplinary GLUTRONICS team led by Prof Di Lorenzo at the University of Bath and including research teams at the Universities of Newcastle, Oxford, and Sheffield, and will benefit from the vibrant environment of the Department of Chemical Engineering, the Centre for Bioengineering and Biomedical Technologies (CBio), the Institute for the Augmented Human (IAH), and the Institute for Sustainability and Climate Change (ISCC).

This is a full-time (36.5 hours per week) fixed term position with an expected end date of 31/05/2028.
