We are seeking a dedicated and talented career-young researcher who is interested in medical statistics. This post offers opportunities to collaborate with UK and international clinical scientists on real-world healthcare challenges. The post is supported by funding from multiple planned and ongoing clinical trials across a range of medical areas. Consequently, the research will be strongly motivated by practical challenges in the design and analysis of clinical trials, while also offering scope for methodological innovation and theoretical development.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing adaptive designs
  • Conducting simulation studies
  • Analysing clinical trial data
  • Interpreting results to clinical scientists

There will be opportunities to contribute to peer-reviewed publications, present research findings at conferences, and engage in interdisciplinary teamwork. The successful candidate will join a growing research group led by Dr Haiyan Zheng at the Department of Mathematical Sciences, University of Bath. A tailored training package will be provided for the post-holder to develop their knowledge, research and career skills. As a member of Research Staff at the University of Bath, you will be encouraged to take up a minimum of 10 days professional development pro rata per year.

About you:

It is desirable that the successful candidate will hold a MSc in statistics, data science, or a closely related field. Knowledge and experience in health data analytics, simulation, optimisation, and clinical trial designs will be an advantage. This role is well suited to career-young researchers endeavouring to build strong foundations in applied and methodological statistics, to develop collaborative research skills, and to contribute to high-impact clinical studies.
