The Department of Computer Science wishes to appoint academic staff in cyber security.

The appointments will be made at Lecturer (Assistant Professor), Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) or Reader (Associate Professor).

Two positions are available with the level of employment commensurate with experience, achievements and research standing.

We are especially interested in candidates with a track record in technical areas of cyber security, including but not limited to: - AI assurance, - safety-critical systems, - verification and validation, - secure software engineering.

You will be a core member of our new Cyber security, Safety and Governance research group, helping to shape its vision, drive its strategic development, and strengthen Bath's position as an internationally recognised centre for cyber security.

You will also have opportunities to build bridges with our established research groups in AI and Machine Learning, Human-Computer Interaction, Mathematical Foundations of Computation, and Visual Intelligence.

Our highly collaborative approach means many opportunities exist to work with researchers in the other groups and across the university, as well as with regional, national and international partners.

We will work with you to support the deepening of existing collaborations and the development of new ones.

The lecturer will be appointed at Grade 8, Senior Lecturer and Reader will be appointed at Grade 9.

About the Role Research

You will work with colleagues, students and researchers to develop and publish papers.

You will apply for research funding to support your ideas.

You will find ways of making your research available to society, for example, by working with industry, developing spin-outs, collaborating with charities, influencing policymakers, or delivering talks and demonstrations to inform and excite wider audiences.

Teaching

You will lead the design and deliver of teaching for lectures, tutorials, and labs across our undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

You will be educating and inspiring some of the brightest students in the country, delivering an engaging experience and a supportive programme.

Helping with the running of the department

You will have a few internal roles to help the Department run smoothly.

For instance, you might help with student placements, ethics processes, recruitment and admissions or lead a research team.

Our ideal candidates will hold a Ph D or equivalent in a relevant discipline, along with a first degree or equivalent experience.

Membership of a professional body and a higher education teaching qualification (e. g.

PGCert, FHEA) are desirable.

  • You should demonstrate substantial research experience in your field, with an emerging track record for Lecturers and an established research profile with funding success for Senior Lecturers/Readers.
  • A deep conceptual understanding of your subject, alongside experience teaching at UG/PG levels, is essential.
  • Strong written, oral and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to form positive collaborations and working relationships, are required.
  • A commitment to excellence in research and teaching, student experience and ethical professional conduct is essential.
  • Senior Lecturers/Readers should also exhibit academic leadership and a clear research vision.
  • Additionally, Senior Lecturers/Readers must have current knowledge of modern teaching methodologies, including learning technologies, and a strong research strategy.
  • All roles require excellent organisational and administrative skills.
