The Department of Mechanical Engineering is seeking to recruit a fixed-term Lecturer for two years to undertake high-quality teaching.

We are seeking a candidate with a passion for teaching, particularly at the early undergraduate level. The primary focus of this role is the delivery of high-quality education to Year 1 and Year 2 cohorts within the Department. You will contribute to teaching across our MEng programmes in Mechanical, Aerospace, Automotive, Manufacturing, and Design Engineering, helping to establish strong foundational knowledge and skills.

A key aspect of the role is to engage and motivate students, enabling them to apply core mathematical and computational techniques to real-world engineering challenges. The successful candidate will have a strong background in engineering mathematics and computational methods, the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly to early-stage learners, and a commitment to high-quality teaching and student engagement.

You will be expected to teach and inspire students in core areas, including:

  • Mathematical fundamentals for engineering
  • Computational methods and numerical analysis
  • Modelling and simulation
  • Dynamic systems and control
  • Data analysis

The use of industry-relevant tools is highly desirable, including:

  • Python / NumPy
  • MATLAB
  • Simulink / Simscape

In addition to lecturing, you will:

  • Contribute to the supervision of Year 3 and Year 4 undergraduate students undertaking individual and group design or research projects
  • Support other teaching activities as required by the Head of Department

You will have a PhD (or equivalent) and experience in Engineering, Physics or Mathematics. You will be a kind and culturally aware leader who fosters an environment where every individual is valued and respected, regardless of their background or identity. You will understand that change is inevitable and necessary, actively encouraging the Department to adapt and evolve. This is a full-time, fixed-term position expected to end in September 2028.
