The Department of Politics, Languages and International Studies is looking to appoint a lecturer (Education Specialist/Teaching) in French Language and Area Studies to work within its dynamic French Section. French includes students on three courses: Modern Languages (French and another language); French and Politics; and International Management and Modern Languages (French). All classes (lectures, seminars and language classes) are taught through the medium of French. The French Section is proud of its strong record of undergraduate teaching; it has consistently been rated very highly in the NSS and ranked in or around the top 10 in national league tables.

We are looking for an exceptional lecturer who will complement our existing teaching strengths in language teaching and Area Studies (Politics, Contemporary History, Culture and Business). They will also be expected to undertake key leadership and management roles within the Languages Division.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Teaching French language across different UG levels and courses
  • Teaching lecture and seminars in French Area Studies (Politics, History, Business and Culture) in French.
  • Convening units
  • Designing and updating course materials as necessary
  • Organising assessment and feedback for all units taught
  • Leadership and management roles as appropriate (including Director of Studies)

The successful candidate will have a sustained record of outstanding teaching in both French language and Area Studies at HE level in order to contribute to the excellent teaching profile of a well organised and close team. They will also have some experience of education leadership and/or management in order to take on roles of responsibility in the Department. Ideally, they will also be able to teach French translation into English.
