The University of Bath and ST Engineering Antycip Ltd are seeking a highly capable Associate to deliver a three-month Accelerated Knowledge Transfer (AKT) project focused on advanced flight simulation technologiesAbout the roleST Engineering Antycip is a leading provider of simulation and synthetic environment solutions for the defence, aerospace and research sectors. A core component of Antycip Simulators is the Merlin flight simulation modelling framework, which supports high-fidelity modelling of a wide range of fixed-wing, rotary wing and emerging eVTOL aircraft.
This project will develop a physics-based airframe model for Merlin simulator, enabling direct incorporation of elastic airframe effects and enhancing simulation capability for future aircraft concepts.
The work will be undertaken in collaboration with Dr Aykut Tamer, Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bath, and Dr Murat Millidere, Merlin Simulation Engineer at ST Engineering Antycip.
The Associate will be responsible for developing and validating a physics-based elastic airframe modelling capability and demonstrating its integration within the Merlin flight simulator. Key activities will include: Requirements capture and modelling architecture development.
Survey and evaluation of modelling approaches.
Development of an airframe model capable of generating the Merlin influence matrix from physical parameters.
Validation using analytical solutions, published software outputs and experimental data.
Demonstration of the model within the Merlin simulation environment. Preparation of project reports and presentations to project stakeholders.
The post will offer the following benefits: Valuable experience and highly transferable skills. Mentoring from the company and academic team.
Experience working directly with a technology-focused industrial partner.
Work on a commercially focused aerospace innovation project.
Gain experience of industrial flight simulation development.
Collaborate with leading experts in aeroelasticity and aerospace systems. Develop knowledge transfer, project management and technical communication skills. Contribute directly to the development of innovative simulation technology with commercial impact. This AKT project is funded by UKRI through Innovate UK. This programme has been designed to create short-term collaborations between a university and business to deliver a rapid and targeted intervention to accelerate the development of an innovation project, with potential for significant impact on the business. AKT projects are delivered by graduates who benefit from the opportunity to work on a strategically relevant project within industry, whilst receiving support and guidance from university academics.
