High school diploma or GED. Must be able to travel between hospital and satellite clinics as needed. Currently certified as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (preferred).

Job Description

Administer preliminary testing and measurements to assess patients’ vision and eye health; administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician; prepare patients for examinations by explaining procedures and ensuring their comfort; assist ophthalmologists during examinations, treatments and surgical procedures; set up and clean up procedures; act as scribe while the physician examines patients, entering data into electronic medical records or paper chart; maintain and operate ophthalmic equipment ensuring it is clean and functioning properly; document patients’ medical history and examination results accurately in electronic health records; provide patient education on eye health treatment plans and post‑operative care; schedule appointments and manage patient flow efficiently; order supplies; assist in training other ophthalmic technicians; comply with all practice procedures and protocols; act in accordance with all State and Federal regulations; maintain a positive attitude consisting of cooperation, self‑motivation, courtesy and professionalism. Potential for travel between hospital and satellite clinics.
