Research Fellow, Natural & Computing Sciences (NCS262R)

The post is based in the Department of Computing Science, within the School of Natural and Computing Sciences at the University of Aberdeen. It is funded by LATTICE (Lateral Adaptive Threat Triaging and Intelligence Collaborative Ecosystems), a Horizon Europe project under the call HORIZON-CL3-2025-02-CS-ECCC-02, New advanced tools and processes for Operational Cybersecurity, with grant agreement number 101308832. The project runs from 1 October 2026 to 30 September 2029. Fourteen partners take part, comprising research institutes, small and medium enterprises and public bodies. The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) coordinates the project.

Job Description

LATTICE addresses a structural problem in European cyber defence. Organisations cannot share threat intelligence without revealing their detection methods and their vulnerable assets. Coordination across organisational and national borders therefore takes between twelve and twenty-four hours, while an attacker moves through a network in one or two. We are building a federated platform with three parts: privacy-preserving threat correlation, consensus-based automated response, and a network of federated digital twins. Over the three years we take these components from laboratory validation to a prototype proven in an operational setting, through four pilots in healthcare, cross-sector adversary emulation, federated security operations, and vulnerability intelligence across European CSIRTs.

Salary will be at the appropriate point on Grade 6, Β£38,784.00 - Β£46,049.00 per annum with placement according to qualifications and experience.

Should you require a visa to undertake employment in the UK you will be required to fulfil the minimum points criteria to be granted a Certificate of Sponsorship under the requirements of the Skilled Worker visa. At the time an offer of appointment is made, you will be asked to demonstrate that you fulfil the criteria in respect of qualification and competency in English. For research and academic posts, we will consider eligibility under the Global Talent visa.
