Overview
Emergency Eye Care, Medical Retina & General Ophthalmology. Initially 6 months with option to extend to 12 months. Full time or part time considered.
Responsibilities
- Participate in outpatient clinics, operating sessions and primary care sessions, including on-call.
- Carry out work-based assessments suitable for a Royal College e-portfolio and opportunities for ocular surgery.
- Attend regular regional post-graduate teaching and educational events.
- Time is allocated to develop experience equivalent to training posts and to gain UK-based experience for CESR/consultant pathways.
- Support provided by appropriate clinical and educational supervision within the department.
- The post is whole time and operates a first on-call 1:8 rota, including prospective cover for annual and study leave.
Qualifications/Experience
Medical Practitioners applying for the post should be fully registered with the General Medical Council. Should have at least two years of experience in ophthalmology.
About the Post
The post offers comprehensive experience in all aspects of ophthalmology in a well-supported and closely supervised environment. Previous post holders have used the post to gain experience towards UK consultant accreditation. Ophthalmologists with limited UK experience but on the GMC specialist register have used the post to gain supervised training before progressing to further UK fellowships and subsequent consultant employment. The post is on a first on-call 1:8 rota and includes on-call duties and coverage for annual and study leave.
