Job overview
We have an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Nephrologist to join the team at UHSussex. This is a fixed term 6 month post at 10 PAs (9DCC : 1 SPA split).
The successful applicant will be based at the Sussex Kidney Unit (SKU) in the Royal Sussex County Hospital (RSCH) in Brighton, which is part of University Hospitals Sussex, and is the teaching hospital associated with Brighton and Sussex Medical School.
The successful applicant will become part of the consultant team doing general nephrology clinics and advanced kidney care clinics in Brighton, transplant clinics in Brighton and renal procedures which would include renal native/transplant biopsies and/or tunnelled lines. There is no general medical component to this job.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work as part of the Sussex Kidney Unit and contribute to the development the unit both within UH Sussex and the wider nephrology community.
The post holder will be one of ten full time renal consultants based at the Sussex Kidney Unit in Brighton with an office there. The successful applicant will work in Brighton predominantly but may also need to travel to do clinics within our whole SKU catchment area.
Clinics in Brighton would involve general nephrology patients and those with advanced kidney disease being prepared for end stage renal disease to be managed with active or conservative therapies. The standard clinic template would be 8 follow up patients (20 minute slots) and 2 new patients (40 minute slots) in each clinic. Appropriate time is allocated in the job plan for clinic administration and follow up post clinic, this represents a clinic of 4 hours with one hour then allocated for clinic administration and one hour for follow up administration.
The successful applicant will have a transplant clinic in Brighton, with a similar clinic template as outlined above.
The successful applicant would be responsible for a native and transplant renal biopsy procedure list and/ or tunnelled fluoroscopically guided line list at the RSCH which will involve supervising ST3+ trainees in these procedures.
There is the possibility that they may also be involved in clinics and in-reach ward rounds at our other multiple sites and must be willing to travel.
