Overview
The post is for a one-year fixed term locum consultant with the option to extend. The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery and development of high-quality Dermatology care. The post holder will also be expected to participate in the normal duties relating to the administration of the Dermatology Department. These duties will include teaching, continuing medical education and audit/clinical governance.
Main duties of the job
- The post holder will be expected to contribute with colleagues and peers to the provision of a hospital-based specialist Dermatology service.
- The post holder will have full and continuing clinical responsibility for the care of patients under their care and the provision of treatment, which is relevant to the Dermatological condition whilst in hospital. This may involve the provision of advice and assistance to consultants in other specialties and the proper delegation to and training of junior staff.
- The provision of a senior clinical role in the continuing development of the Dermatology Service including specialist clinics.
- To provide on a reciprocal basis, a consultant service in the absence of consultant colleagues.

Job responsibilities
The job plan will be a 10 PA contract which will include dedicated SPA time. There is potential for the post to increase to 12 PAs with optional DCC sessions. An indicative timetable and Job Plan is outlined below. The final Job Plan for the post will be agreed with the Service Line or Care Group Director upon appointment and will be subject to annual review in line with the Trusts Job Planning Programme.
The post is advertised with 1.5 Generic SPA. The department will support additional SPA and Medical School activity in the Job Plan according to the needs of the Service. We would expect the Average full time Consultant to have 2 SPAs in their Job Plan.
