Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic Senior Therapy Technical Instructor to join the Respiratory Medical Team in the Therapies Directorate at the UHNM. This post offers the opportunity to deliver therapy provision to specialist respiratory wards which are recognised as regional centres for Motor Neurone Disease, Non-Invasive Critical Care & Complex Tracheostomy Weaning. It is an exciting opportunity to embed themselves in an area at the forefront of acute hospital services. Medical patients form the biggest cohort seen in the acute trust and this specialist post lends itself naturally to innovative ways of working. It is supported by one of the largest therapy teams which will give the post holder a chance to consolidate therapy skills and broaden rehabilitation skills and discharge planning with a complex group of patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver therapy provision to specialist respiratory wards.
- Involved in early rehabilitation and discharge planning across a range of conditions.
- Lead and develop Band 3 therapy technicians and apprenticeship staff; support their training and career progression.
- Provide supervision under Band 6/7 Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist, ensuring professional development through appraisal and internal/external training.
- Work as part of a 7‑day shift system, including weekend, late shift and bank holiday rotations.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience in respiratory therapy or related therapeutic discipline.
- Strong understanding of rehabilitation and discharge planning processes.
- Leadership experience supporting and developing junior therapy staff.
- Good communication, appraisal and training-development skills.
