Overview
Hospital Sterilisation and Disinfection Unit Technician role at University Hospitals of North Midlands (UHNM), based across two sites: Royal Stoke and County Hospital. This is a fully flexible role with shift patterns that may be changed at short notice; cover at the Royal Stoke site as required.
Responsibilities
- Support the Hospital Sterilisation and Disinfection Unit (HSDU) in the supply and maintenance of surgical instruments used in surgical and medical procedures.
- Receive instruments after use, clean, disinfect, package, sterilise and deliver them back to operating theatres, wards, departments, clinics and GP surgeries.
- Operate with high standards of accuracy and quality, and be able to work under tight deadlines.
Qualifications and Skills
- Good standard of education with literacy and numeracy skills.
- Basic computer skills; ability to use a PC daily and read instrument labels and written instructions.
- No previous experience required; full in-house training provided.
- Demonstrate high standards, genuine interest in healthcare and patient safety, and a commitment to delivering high quality work.
Shift Patterns and Pay
- Nights 22:00 – 06:00: Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
- 1 in 6 weeks – either Days 06:00 – 14:00 or Twilight 14:00 – 22:00.
- Permanent weekends with a back-fill day off in the week.
- On-call and bank holiday working on rota are essential.
- Pay scale – Band 2 with enhancement pay after 20:00 to 06:00 as per Agenda for Change; weekends at an enhanced rate.
Sponsorship and Eligibility
University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust is unable to provide sponsorship for Band 2 and Band 3 roles. This aligns with UKVI guidelines and legislation as these roles do not meet the skill or salary threshold for sponsorship. Graduate visa holders may apply, but UHNM cannot offer sponsorship at the end of the graduate visa; a minimum of six months remaining on the visa at the start of employment is required for training and operational reasons.
