Overview
The University Hospital of North Midlands, Mid Cheshire and East Cheshire NHS Trusts are working collaboratively to form a Pathology network in line with a NHSI directive. Anticoagulation Practitioner (suitable for Biomedical Scientists, registered nurses and other registered professional healthcare roles). Band 5. Leighton Hospital and community clinics across Cheshire. This is not a laboratory-based role and the department is unable to support the IBMS certificate of competence (registration) portfolio or IBMS specialist portfolio. We are seeking an enthusiastic, compassionate and flexible person to join our anticoagulation team at Leighton Hospital as an Anticoagulation Practitioner (ACP).
The post holder will be based primarily at Leighton Hospital with a substantial part of each week spent at community clinics serving Mid, East, South Cheshire and Vale Royal, and may cover at Macclesfield Hospital on occasion.
Responsibilities
- Provide a high quality anticoagulation monitoring service to patients through scientific and technical activities.
- Attend community locations to undertake INR measurements for patients.
- Provide warfarin dosing advice to patients based on medical history, concurrent medications and target range using the DAWN AC software system.
- Work both as part of a team and independently; manage time and prioritise tasks under pressure.
- Provide supervision for non-registered Anticoagulation Support Workers (ASWs) working within the team.
- Maintain competence to practice and pursue Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and departmental training and competency assessments.
Eligibility and Qualifications
The ACP encompasses state-registered staff such as Biomedical Scientists, Registered Nurses, and Pharmacy Technicians working in the Anticoagulation department. Suitable for Biomedical Scientists, registered nurses and other registered professional healthcare roles.
Location and Scope
Base: Leighton Hospital with substantial time at community clinics across Mid, East, South Cheshire and Vale Royal; occasional cover at Macclesfield Hospital.
