Are you seeking an exciting career opportunity in one of the most picturesque parts of the country?

Morecambe Bay Hospitals Trust offers the chance to work with the stunning Lake District on your doorstep, along with excellent transport links to major towns and cities across the North West and beyond.

We are proud to offer rotational preceptorship programmes for newly qualified Band 5 midwives, as well as opportunities for experienced Band 6 rotational midwives to join our dynamic, forward-thinking, and professional team. Covering a wide geographical area that includes both rural and urban communities, our team is dedicated to delivering exceptional care.

Main Duties of the Job

Midwives are accountable as the lead professional and have a unique relationship with the women, newborn infants, partners, and families they care for and support.

Midwives should optimise physiological processes, support safe psychological, social, and cultural situations, and work to promote positive outcomes while anticipating and preventing complications. They provide midwifery-led care to women, working as autonomous practitioners within a multidisciplinary team.

  • To provide 24-hour high-quality women-centred maternity care.
  • To provide effective leadership, optimise teaching opportunities, and support all grades of staff; planning and directing activities to ensure the highest standard of care.
  • To educate women and their families and provide necessary care, advice, and supervision throughout pregnancy.
  • To ensure appropriate referral for mother or child.
  • To promote personalised care and choice, giving necessary care advice and supervision to women and their families where possible/appropriate.
  • To liaise closely with the person responsible and deputise when required.
  • To ensure the clinical environment is clean and safe for women, families, and staff.

We operate from three main hospitals: Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, along with community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and RLI offer a range of general hospital services, including Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units, and various consultant-led services.

WGH provides general hospital services, an Urgent Treatment Centre, and facilities for non-life-threatening conditions.

All three hospitals provide outpatient, diagnostic, therapeutic, day case, and inpatient surgical services. Community outreach services and diagnostics are also available across Morecambe Bay.

Our community services for adults are delivered in homes, community centres, clinics, GP practices, community hospitals, and main hospitals. Our goal is to help people remain independent, improve their health, and manage their conditions through high-quality care, advice, and support.
