Overview
Candidates will work as Clinical Research Fellows. They will work cooperatively with colleagues in similar roles to provide 1 FTE at registrar/clinical fellow level as part of the adult cardiac surgery service (on call rota currently 1 in 6), with the remaining time allocated to research. Research time will be spent working with the Leicester Cardiac Surgery Research group based at the University of Leicester and led by Professor Gavin Murphy, British Heart Foundation Chair of Cardiac Surgery.
The candidate will be expected to undertake high quality research and will be encouraged to dedicate their time to a specific research project as part of the multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities
- Register with the University of Leicester to undertake a higher degree (MD or PhD).
- Apply for competitive research fellowships.
- Occasional lectures and small group teaching for students / junior doctors.
Appointment details
This is a 12-month appointment in the first instance, with renewal conditional on evidence of satisfactory academic progression and clinical competency. For NTN trainees wishing to apply, the post has been recognised by the East Midlands Training rotation for an Out of Programme (Research) placement as part of NTN training. Applicants holding a NTN should contact their local Training Programme Director for prospective approval prior to application.
