The Cancer Pharmacist Team at UHDB has long held a high reputation for their proactive and innovative work, effective use of cutting-edge technology, and an unparalleled responsiveness to implementing new treatments into the Trust.
Working across multiple sites, the team has embraced true collaborative cross-site working, providing exceptional care to patients undergoing chemotherapy in an outpatient and inpatient setting.
The team also comprises of several non-medical prescribers supporting clinicians in chemotherapy clinics, independently prescribing SACT, managing toxicities and providing support and advice to patients. Their contribution to the service has reduced clinician workload, reduced waiting times, and improved patient experience.
The Trust has recognised the significant and meaningful impact the cancer pharmacist team has on cancer care delivery, and approval of 1WTE of this post is a result of a successful workforce bid.
The successful post holders will operate within a hybrid-role model, consolidating traditional pharmacist duties with non-medical prescribing, with 0.5WTE dedicated to each aspect of the role.
Please note this is a cross-site post, and successful post holders will be expected to work across Royal Derby Hospital and Queens Burton Hospital as required., Responsibilities will include:

Providing leadership to the cancer pharmacy team.

Managing and supervising the duties of pharmacists, pre-registration pharmacists and technicians within the team

Providing a high-quality clinical ward-based service.

Participating in multidisciplinary ward rounds.

Clinically checking chemotherapy prescriptions.
-
Supporting the Clinical Trials team in the screening of chemotherapy prescriptions

Answering and advising on drug related queries.

Preparing analysis and commentary on drug expenditure and service delivery models.

Project management to support service redesign.

Supporting the management of the Trust chemotherapy e-prescribing system (ChemoCare)

Participating in Chemotherapy Governance meetings

Participating in the delivery of chemotherapy checking competency training to junior colleagues

Participating in teaching within the multidisciplinary team

Supporting the Divisional Lead Pharmacist in shaping the direction of the team, in line with divisional objectives

Once qualification obtained, support outpatient chemotherapy clinics as a non-medical prescriber:
o Clinically assess patient for suitability for chemotherapy
o Advise and counsel patients on best us of medication
o Manage toxicities and provide holistic support

Attend MDTs related to chosen speciality

Take part in research and development projects to improve patient experience and service delivery
