Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and forward-thinking Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with a specialist interest in Head and Neck Oncology and Reconstruction to join University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust (UHP). This substantive post includes an on-call commitment and offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a dynamic, expanding department.
Responsibilities
- Provide a consultant-led service in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery with specialisation in head and neck oncology.
- Become an integral part of the Head and Neck cancer services MDT, working with ENT, Plastic Surgery, Oncology and Restorative Dentistry, supported by the CNS team.
- Participate in weekly Head and Neck MDT meetings and clinics.
- Provide comprehensive surgical care for patients with Head and Neck cancer, including resection and reconstruction using soft tissue, composite free and local flaps.
- Operate in collaboration with ENT and Plastic Surgery colleagues; access regular three-session operating days to support this work.
- Contribute to service development and leadership as part of a multidisciplinary team; support from allied health professionals is in place.
- Engage with digital planning in patient care and reconstruction, supported by the Maxillofacial laboratory.
- Work within a departmental footprint that includes paediatric operating theatre involvement and the Southwest Cleft team visits, broadening practice across age groups.

- Salary: Depending on experience £109,725 – £145,478 per annum pro rata

Qualifications
- Essential
- On the GMC Specialist list in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, or within 6 months of eligibility for inclusion
- Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Examination in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, or equivalent
- Desirable
- Higher degrees and/or MFDS or equivalent, and Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons, or equivalent
Experience
- Essential
- Demonstrate evidence of good clinical training
- Desirable
- Additional experience of performing complex paediatric surgery
