This is a new, full time (10 PA) Consultant Clinical Neurophysiologist posts based at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children (BRHC). We wish to appoint a paediatric/adult trained Clinical Neurophysiologist with expertise in Children’s Epilepsy Surgery Service (CESS) and preferably Stereoelectroencephalography EEG (SEEG), to join the current team of one adult/paediatric trained Clinical Neurophysiologist in Bristol Royal Hospital for Children (BRHC) to meet increased demand on the service to perform Stereo Electroencephalography (SEEG). We are one of four centres nationally designated to deliver CESS service. The post also includes paediatric and adult outpatient clinic, diagnostic reporting, inpatient diagnostics, participation in MDT and participation in the city wide on call EEG reporting rota. Main duties of the job The successful candidate will work with the existing consultant to take a central role in the CESS MDT and proven expertise in paediatric epilepsy is essential, in particular, experience in the field of epilepsy surgery;review of Video EEG and the subsequent production of reports is essential and SEEG expertise is desirable, though the minimum requirement is a commitment to learn SEEG. Experience of Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS) and Electromyography (EMG) in a paediatric and adult populations is essential, but the balance of paediatric and adult general work in the job plan could be reviewed upon appointment. Person specification Qualifications & Training Entry on the Specialist Register in Clinical Neurophysiology (or entry expected within 3 months from the date of interview. MRCP (UK) or equivalent Applicants must note that applications will not be accepted unless GMC registration, together with successful completion of any relevant language examination (if applicable) can be demonstrated Higher academic qualification e.g. MD, PhD or equivalent Experience At least 4 years training in clinical neurophysiology Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in paediatric neurophysiology Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the care of patients Evidence of a special interest, ideally paediatric epilepsy/epilepsy surgery, and expertise that complements the Trust’s service strategy Clinical Knowledge and Skills Up to date knowledge and experience of relevant specialty Ability to report on neurophysiological examinations to a consultant level Knowledge of NHS priorities with reference to specialty Broad range of IT skills Experience/interest in 3D radiological imaging technology Clinical Governance and Audit Understanding of clinical governance and the individual responsibilities it implies Knowledge of the principles of clinical audit and evidence of participation, including submission of quality/performance data to local/ national audit programmes Positive approach to evidence-based practice Participation in continuing professional development (CPD) scheme and, where relevant, evidence thereof Completion of one or more significant audit project Research Knowledge of the principles involved in research Evidence of involvement in research Evidence of peer review research papers Ability to increase the academic profile of the department Presentations and/or posters at academic meetings Teaching and Training Experience of teaching medical students Experience of supervising trainees.
