Role Description
Working as a TSHCSW on adult inpatient wards or outpatient departments you will be involved with direct patient care while maintaining privacy and dignity of patients. You will work alongside a registered nurse to provide essential nursing care for adult patients. You will help patients (both male and female) with daily living tasks including washing and toileting (hygiene & continence) and help with meals (nutrition).
Key Responsibilities
- Help with mobility needs and provide pressure area care.
 - Provide patients and their families with emotional support.
 - Undertake one‑to‑one observation for patients at high risk due to their clinical condition.
 - Help maintain a clean and safe ward environment to prevent infection and falls.
 - As a trainee senior healthcare worker, receive training to take and record vital signs, identify and elevate changes in patient condition to the registered nurse.
 - Maintain additional clinical skills such as ECGs, venepuncture, simple dressings as required.

Position Details
University Hospital Bristol and Weston are looking for Band 2 Trainee Senior Healthcare Support Workers (TSHCSW) in a variety of Wards and Outpatients opportunities. We developed the TSHCSW role to provide an entry point on the nursing apprentice career pathway. You will initially be employed as a Band 2 Health Care Support Worker and receive in‑house training to gain the skills and competencies to allow you to progress into a SHCSW role, Band 3.
In this role you will gain valuable insight into working within an acute hospital environment and provide a strong foundation for a career in healthcare. You will be required to be fully flexible across all shift patterns, including weekdays, weekends, nights and bank holidays. 23 hours per week is the minimum for a part‑time role.
Previous healthcare experience is not required, but enthusiasm and commitment to learn is essential. Good academic qualifications are required for this role, please see job description.

 - Wards (24‑7 shift patterns)
