The post holder, under the guidance of the Lead Theatre Emergency Department Practitioner, is responsible for the holistic assessment, planning, and implementation of patient care within the Queen Elizabeth Emergency Department. The Emergency Department Practitioner is a skilled professional contributing to the Major Trauma service. The post holder will primarily work with acutely unwell patients, alongside Nursing and Medical Teams, conducting rapid assessments of various conditions. They must work under pressure while maintaining high standards of safe, professional, and effective care, promoting evidence-based practice. The post holder will help implement the Trust Clinical Governance agenda, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and guidelines, and support human resource policies for effective personnel management. They will promote team working, development, and collaboration among team members.

The post holder will be professionally accountable for maintaining standards and practice as per HCPC/NMC codes and other relevant guidelines. They will take charge of the Resuscitation Area, ensuring high standards of holistic, patient-centered care, including assessing nursing, peri-operative, and health education needs, and developing, implementing, and evaluating care programs. They may act as a deputy to the person responsible for managing the Emergency Department and will demonstrate leadership in Resuscitation Area management, especially in the absence of the Lead Theatre Practitioner. They will use various techniques to set and monitor clinical standards, conduct audits, research, and teaching to improve care and patient experience. Additionally, they will support audit, quality, and risk management initiatives.
