University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.

The education team has an exciting opportunity to join us as a Clinical Practice Educator. This role will focus on supporting new members of the team, developing current staff and implementing evidence-based practice into Division B, with a focus on staff on the acute medical unit (AMU), for a total of 9 months. The successful candidate will be an excellent role model and provide clinical support to staff. They will need to be able to work autonomously and proactively to positively influence the quality of the clinical learning environment. Working collaboratively with both the clinical team and education team will be imperative to the success of this role. The education team offers opportunities to develop your career in both your clinical and educational portfolio. You will be supported to develop the required skills needed to support others both clinically and in a classroom.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

  • Provide a visible clinical profile, having an advisory and clinical input into the development of staff.
  • Build and promote positive relationships with all stakeholders involved in practice education, including, but not limited to education centre teams, clinical leads, subject specialists, simulated patients and external partners.
  • Communicate effectively with staff at all levels in the organisation in non‑clinical, clinical and other roles including senior leadership teams and medical roles.
  • Prepare and present practice‑based education and development to a mixed audience with differing levels of knowledge, presenting ideas in ways that promote understanding, through a variety of media and communication aids.
  • Work collaboratively with clinical and non‑clinical teams to support the development of staff including students, practice educators, preceptors, trainees, and members of the wider multi‑professional team.
  • Contribute to the quality process, by identifying and acting appropriately regarding incidents of poor practice through clinical incident reporting, audit and research.

Qualifications, Knowledge And Experience

Essential criteria

  • Professional requirements e.g. Registered Nurse or Registered Professional or Non‑registered support worker etc.
  • Professional knowledge acquired through degree education or equivalent experience.
  • Mentoring / coaching / education qualification to postgraduate diploma level or equivalent evidence of supporting learners in practice.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Significant experience within relevant field.
  • Experience of educating others in a formal or informal setting.
  • Broad awareness of Trust initiatives/pressures.

Desirable criteria

  • Education at a master’s degree level.
  • Further education at a master’s degree level in relevant practice area.
  • Leadership qualification or significant equivalent experience.
  • Previous Band 6 experience.
  • Further evidence of speciality competence.
