Main duties of the job

Are you a B5 Occupational Therapist, or a current B6, looking to further your OT career and not sure where you want to specialise, or desiring a change? Then this may be the perfect opportunity for you!

We have a rotational B6 opportunity for an OT who wants to consolidate their clinical skills, by rotating through different clinical areas, whilst growing and developing their leadership and management skills.

The postholder will rotate through the following teams: Cancer care, Surgery, Critical Care, Cardiothoracic, Vascular, AMU, Medicine, Medicine for Older People, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Neurosciences, Stroke, and a new Single-handed care rotation, on a 9-month rotational basis. Please note: Other areas may be added in future as this rotation progresses.

As this post is part of the wider Therapy services department, you will have many opportunities to develop new skills and knowledge through our in-service training. You will be part of a large department of over 300 Therapy staff including Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Therapy support staff.

We provide a 7-day therapy service for our Trust and therefore you need to be able to work weekends and bank holidays, on a planned rota basis.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist who wishes to progress their career in acute hospital care. You will be completing specialised assessments, goal-directed treatments & multi-therapy discharge planning. You will be required to liaise closely with local community services, specialist regional units & local DGH’s.

We are looking for a forward-thinking Occupational Therapist who is passionate about high quality patient centred care. You will need excellent communication skills & the ability to work flexibly to accommodate the ever-changing nature of an acute & complex environment. You will be responsible for managing a varied and complex caseload as well as supporting & supervising B3-5 therapy staff & students. All our therapy staff are required to be able to undertake flexible working over a 7-day period.

This post is suitable for a B5 OT looking to advance to B6, or a B6 who wishes to gain a wider experience in acute care by rotating every 9m to a different clinical speciality. There is regular clinical supervision as well as peer support. There are also opportunities for involvement in audit, research & service development is always encouraged as we strive for new & innovative ways of working.

Essential Skills

  • Postgraduate experience of working in the acute hospital setting, working across a range of clinical areas
  • Clear expressed desire to work on acute rotation within UHS

Desirable Skills Needed

  • Postgraduate involvement in audit/research/clinical project/service development
  • Postgraduate experience in supervising other staff or students
  • Evidence of providing teaching to therapy staff and students
  • Understanding of complex equipment needs including managing pressure care

Training and support can be offered to meet your learning requirements.

Please Note

  • Interviews will be held on 11th Sept
  • As part of this role, you will be expected to work across 7-days, on a rota basis, and work extended hour day from 8am to 6pm.
