Main duties of the job

Southampton Children’s Hospital Education team are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and highly experienced paediatric oncology nurse who is interested in providing clinical support and education within the clinical environment to cover maternity leave. The post holder will be a nurse who is passionate about supporting registered staff, non-registered staff and students on Piam Brown ward (Paediatric Oncology) and providing support in competency and practice development. They will also be responsible for planning and delivering regional education to the POSCUs.

The Children’s Hospital Education team consists of a lead nurse for education and practice and is supported by a team of ward based clinical facilitators who support and develop nurses in the clinical areas.The team supports learning, competency development and practice development across bands 2 to 7 as well as supporting nursing students.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

The role includes enabling and encouraging learners to take responsibility and accountability for their own practice. You will encourage learner participation, through equality of opportunities and acknowledgement of diversity; facilitate an open, honest and quality patient-focused learning environment. Use a variety of methods (e.g. simulation and technology enhanced learning) to deliver education, adjusting accordingly to learner needs, preferences and neuro diversity where possible.

Qualifications, Knowledge And Experience

Essential criteria

  • Professional requirements e.g. Registered Nurse or Registered Professional.
  • Professional knowledge acquired through degree education or equivalent experience Further education at a master\’s degree level in relevant practice area
  • Mentoring / coaching / education qualification to postgraduate diploma level or equivalent evidence of supporting learners in practice.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Significant experience within relevant field
  • Experience of educating others in a formal or informal setting
  • Broad awareness of Trust initiatives/pressures

Desirable criteria

  • Education at a master\’s degree level
  • Further education at a master\’s degree level in relevant practice area
  • Leadership qualification or significant equivalent experience
  • Previous Band 6 experience
  • Further evidence of speciality competence
